Come Dance With Me

come-dance-with-me-1 For those who live with dementia and their carers... Come Dance With Me is a series of dementia friendly creative dance classes created and led by Tiina Alinen and in association with Alzheimers Australia (Qld). This program is inspired by Chrsitine Bryden and supported by founding member Beverley Giles. This unique program has been designed collaboratively with people with dementia, to make it truly dementia friendly. It offers creative dance, based on non-verbal conversation through movement, and includes socialisation as well as moderate physical exercise. The 2 hour class includes a 1/2 hour break for refreshment, cooling down, and socialisation. We aim for a class size of 6 people with dementia and 6 supporters, with volunteers on hand to offer assistance if needed. Tiina has a diverse range of experience working with communities in community arts projects in regional, urban and remote Queensland communities as well as national and international communities. Her experience includes working with the deaf community on the Sunshine Coast toward a choreographic work supported by Arts Queensland and performed by Expressions Dance Company entitled ‘Language Rhythms’. Tiina has collaborated with well-respected poet Glen Sheppard, who lives with Autism and Down Syndrome on many occasions for dance projects. Her community dance workshops are organic, inclusive and surprising. Workshop numbers are capped so early bookings are encouraged. Keep an eye out on the news link of this website for upcoming workshops or alternatively, send your contact details to and Tiina will let you know when the next workshop is commencing.
