Dementia Hero

For people living with dementia and those who love someone, living with dementia.

Tiina created the successful and highly valued Australian Come Dance With Me program with Christine Bryden, for Dementia Australia in 2014. Today, she continues to deliver perceptive conversation workshops as a Communication Awareness Consultant.

Dementia Hero is about people learning how to communicate with people living with dementia, using non-verbal techniques, developed by Tiina over 35 years in dance, community, cultural and health contexts. She is inspired by Dementia Heroes who show us, how to live in the present and communicate, through body memory. Tiina Alinen Projects embrace programs which champion the inclusion of all, for the benefit of all.

This unique program has been designed collaboratively with people with dementia, to make it truly dementia friendly. It offers wellbeing dance, based on non-verbal conversation through movement, and includes socialisation as well as moderate physical exercise.

The 2 hour class includes a 1/2 hour break for refreshment, cooling down, and socialisation. We aim for a class size of 6 people with dementia and 6 carers, with volunteers on hand to offer assistance as needed.

Our Dementia Hero workshops are organic, inclusive and surprising. Workshop numbers are capped so early bookings are encouraged. We can also create a block of workshops for an existing group and come to you.

$25 per 2 hr workshop or $65 x 3 workshops
